James Davenport Jones, Age 29

Rifleman, A/202105 2/11th Battalion, London Regiment (Finsbury Rifles) (King's Royal Rifle Corps)

James was the son of James and Susannah Jones of Hillside, Dawley Bank.

He had previously served as S4/215877 Army Service Corp before being transferred. It was while serving with his new regiment that James received the wounds from which he died from on 7th November 1917 in Flanders (Ypres). James had been wounded by shellfire on the 5th November but had carried on for a while before being taken to a casualty clearing station where he had suddenly collapsed and died. James body is interred at the Dozinghem Military cemetery in Grave XIII.B.14.

A memorial service was held for James at the Ketley Parish Church on December the 16th 1917.

Dozinghem was a casualty hospital just out of range of the German guns to the rear Of the Ypres Salient and along with Mendinghem and Bandaghem formed a group of Hospitals that were aptly named (Dose-ing-them, Mend-ing-Them and Bandage-ing­ them).
